Salem Art Works is offering college students throughout the country use of our multidisciplinary arts farm in Washington County, New York. We are a platform for independent work accredited through the sponsoring school; students have the opportunity to take advanced classes with leaders in their field of study alongside deep intellectual immersion with artists from an array of backgrounds.
For the entire month of July, students will be able to work freely anywhere on our 119-acre property and will be given room, board and their own studio space. Salem Art Works Director Anthony Cafritz, an arts educator and practicing artist, will produce clear and decisive evaluations of each student's curricular activities over the course of the month-long intensive.
Being in a supportive yet critical environment allows participants in our Independent Study program to grow stronger in their artmaking, while having access to all the facilities offered to our resident artists:
* a modular, covered, sprung-floor stage for rehearsals and performances
* glass, metal and wood shops
* a music room packed with instruments and equipment
* an iron furnace
* sunlit, high-ceilinged barn studio spaces
Plus there is the most vital component: an opportunity for students to gain insight from their peers at a critical time in their artistic development.
The Salem Art Works Independent Study program in as unprecedented opportunity to be involved in an intensive investigation of their own artistic voice. Students will be exposed to the energetic, informed exchange that Salem Art Works embodies.
